Hartford, CT: Oliver D. Cooke, 1827.  11 3/8 x 17 7/8.  Engraving.  Original hand color.  Some transference, and circular stain in title area, not affecting focus of map.  Good condition.

Emma Hart Willard (1787-1870) at the time of publication was Principal of the Troy Female Seminary, on Mount Ida in Troy, New York.

Willard was an American Women's Rights activist who dedicated her life to education.  After working in several schools, she founded the Troy Female Seminary in 1821.  In 1895, the school was renamed in her honor: Emma Willard School, and it continues to the present day.
