Boston: Haskell & Allen, ca. 1850. 8 1/4 x 13. Lithograph.  Original hand color. Very good condition.

A wonderful view of the upper Delaware River, along the Pennsylvania/New Jersey or perhaps Pennsylvania/New York border. Haskell & Allen were one of the chief rivals of the New York firm of Currier and Ives, and this charming image shows why their prints were so popular.  Haskell started as picture framer and print seller; listed in an 1868 Boston directory as partner in Haskell & Ripley (18 Hanover St).  A year later he formed partnership with George F. Allen.   In 1873 they moved to 61 Hanover St.  They prospered until about 1875; they went bankrupt in April 1878.
