Unattributed.  “Penelope Lady Dynham, wife of Sir John Dynham.  Daughter of Thomas Lord Wenman & eldest Sister of Jane Mother of Jane, Wife of Philip, now Lord Wharton, 1642.”

ca. 1800.  10 3/8 x 8 3/8 (sheet).  Watercolor drawing on wove paper trimmed to image and mounted to title sheet with gold lettering.  Small chip bottom right, not affecting image. Else, very good condition.

This lovely and well executed watercolor is a much later study of a 17th century painting.  We date this piece to be early 19th century as it is on wove paper.  In the upper left hand corner is the coat of arms of both families.  Penelope’s father, Thomas Wenman was born in Tuam, Galway, Ireland, 1597.  John and Penelope had only one child, Philip.
