Anton Schutz. "Bank of England."

Etching on fine wove paper.  8 3/4 x 11 3/4.  Signed and titled in pencil.  Excellent condition.

An elegant pre-war street scene before the Bank of England in the City of London.   The artist of this work, Anton Joseph Friedrich Schutz, was born in Berndorf, Austria in 1894 and died in 1955.  His etchings can be found at the Metropolitan Museum; the Chicago Museum; Washington D.C.; National Library, in Paris; and the British Museum.  He was the Director of the New York Graphic Society and was the author of a book published in 1939 titled “New York Etchings”.   Schutz is particularly well known for his etchings of buildings in different cities on the East Coast, including Philadelphia and New York.  The richness of his etching style, his excellent eye for fine detail, and his artistic sensibility make all his prints most attractive and collectible.
