William Russell. “The West Indies and Gulf of Mexico …” From History of America.
London: Fielding and Walker, 1778. 9 x 13 ¾ (neat lines). Engraving by John Lodge. With folds as issued. Minor stain in title cartouche. Else, very good condition.
An interesting and very detailed map of the West Indies from the end of the eighteenth century. Detail is extensive throughout. Included are depictions and names of rivers, lakes, settlements, bays, islands and shoals. The southern part of North America, including Florida and the Mississippi Delta, is shown at the top and the northern tip of South America is shown at the bottom. The engraving is strong and the detail very up-to-date for the time. Overall this is a very nice 18th century map of the West Indies.
