This map is from a two volume publication The History of Pennsylvania, in North America. From the Original Institution and Settlement of that Province, under the first Proprietor and Governor William Penn, in 1681, till after the Year 1742. Much topographical information is shown, with rivers, towns and major roads all indicated. Western Pennsylvania is sparsely mapped, with rivers indicated in the northwest, though major towns and roads are shown in the southwest. It is interesting to note that Delaware is also marked 'Territories of Pennsylvania’ to show how the colony controlled by the Penn family had more land prior to the state boundary disputes. A wonderful map of the mid Atlantic states from the first comprehensive history of the state of Pennsylvania.
