An image from a series of dramatic views of the ruins of Pompeii by Francesco Piranesi. These views were based on the drawings and notes of Francesco’s famous father Giovanni Baptiste Piranesi, who visited Pompeii in the 1770s. The style of Francesco’s prints are similar to those of his father’s, with strong, rich evocations of this ancient site.
