Frederick Piercy (1830-1891). "Natchez under the hill.” [Mississippi]. From Route of Liverpool to Great Salt Lake Valley.
Liverpool: F. D. Richards, 1855. 6 ½ x 10 ¼ (image). Steel engraving by C. Fenn. Hand color. Scarce. Very good condition.
Piercy traveled to the United States to sketch scenes for this publication which is considered some of the best views of the United States of this time period. He traveled with a group of English Mormons who sailed from Liverpool to New Orleans and then up the Mississippi on their destination to Great Salt Lake. Piercy also wrote the book which was intended both as a monument to Mormon emigration and to encourage new emigrants.
