Peck was an American mycologist and the New York State Botanist from 1867 to 1915.  During his professional career Peck described over 2700 species of North American fungi.

Both Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms were represented in his prints. The variety of fungus is identified with both by the Latin and English names.
