Moore House, outside Yorktown, Virginia, October 18, 1781, Lord Cornwallis and General Washington had signed the fourteen Articles of Capitulation, and the British army marched out from Yorktown to lay down their arms in defeat.

From a suite of 20 etchings illustrating events in Washington’s life, edited by John Taylor Arms and Harry A. Ogden, New York. Plates printed by Henry E. Carling, London, England. Edition 1000. Plates cancelled. Paper watermarked “GW” in circle at lower right, with Washington’s coat of arms (shield, crown, and eagle) at upper left.
