Philadelphia: Melish and Harrison, 1818.  8 ¾ x 17 (image).  With full volume. First and only edition.  Collation: [1]-8, [ix]-[xvi], [9]-280.  3 maps.  Slight staining and browning, but better than most.  Original half leather binding.  Ex libris with perforated stamp on title page and discreet withdrawal stamp.  Front cover detached and tear in title page repaired.  With folds as originally issued.  Complete:  Shaw-Shoemaker, 44792.  Sabin, 47437 (note).

This world map and accompanying book is by the great American geographer and cartographer provides a text to accompany Melish’s map of the world on the Mercator projection.  The frontispiece world map is one a complementary oval project for useful contrast.  Samuel Harrison updated his 1816 map to this new version dated 1818.  The other two maps included in this book are of the Isthmus and Darien and the Isthmus of Suez.  The last four pages provides a catalog of Melish’s published geographical works.  An interesting and scarce work.
