This view shows the Carver Barracks within the District of Columbia. The barracks consisted of both wooden buildings and many tents to handle the extra soldiers who were brought in to protect the nation's Capital. A dirt road is shown passing through the camp, filled with civilian riders and carriages, and small vignettes of camp life, including hanging out laundry, are shown.
