Leaflets of Memory an Illustrated Annual. [For 1856].
New York: Leavitt & Allen, 1855. Octavo. 9ll.,17-308. 9 plates. Slightly browned with some foxing, mostly to tissue guards. Original full leather, ornate, gold stamped covers. Page ends gilded.
A typically lovely gift book containing poems, essays, and short histories. Seven mezzotint plates are by John Sartain with a superb lithographed plate, printed in colors, credited to Thomas Sinclair in the list of illustrations, but on the plate itself credited to A. Brett of Philadelphia. A color lithograph title-page, also credited to Sinclair by the list, is not present and does not appear to have been removed. Perhaps Sinclair could not provide the plates after the list was printed and Brett made a substitute. Illustrations are after works of Bigot, Schopin, Ferring, Turner, Eastlake, Seyffarth, Danby, and Tombleson. A fine gift book.
