Louis Le Breton (1818-1866) was one of the most prolific nineteenth century marine painters. His work is known for its precise detail, presented in a lovely, artistic manner. This prints is typical of his work. This view of the man-of-war Le Louis XIV was from a series of prints showing "The fleet of our day." It delineates this ship which had been converted into a school for sailors and gunners which lay in the Road of Brest.
