A.J. Johnson. “Johnson’s Philadelphia.”
New York: A.J. Johnson, 1872. Lithograph. Original hand color. 21 1/2 x 15 3/4. Small chip in right hand margin with repaired short tear. Very good condition.
An attractive map of Philadelphia from A. J. Johnson’s mid-nineteenth century atlas of the world. Johnson, who published out of New York City, was one of the leading cartographic publishers in the second half of the century, producing popular atlases, geographies and so on. This map, showing fine detail of the city, is an excellent example of Johnson’s, and thus early American, cartography.
