An illustrative print from Barnard’s History of England.  This wonderful history, full of prints on all aspects of English history, was issued at the end of the eighteenth century partly in response to the growing demand for works on all subjects by a newly educated reading public in England.  The prints are all finely engraved, many with decorative borders, and they are of such quality and interest as to suggest strongly our loss in this day of photo reproduction.  This print, showing this noteworthy historical character, is an excellent example of that period’s fine illustrative work.
