John Nugent Fitch. Pl. 282. "Vanda Coerulea." From The Orchid Album.
London: B. S. William, 1882. Paper size 12 x 9 1/2. Lithograph. Original hand coloring. Full margins. Excellent condition.
One of a series of beautiful hand-colored prints by J. N. Fitch from The Orchid Album, a famous botanical series published in London at the end of the nineteenth century. The series was intended partially as a scientific work, as evidenced by the detailed text by Thomas Moore, but it is best known for the sumptuous drawings with their bright, rich coloring. Fine examples of one of the most popular of botanical illustrations.
