Currier & Ives, "America's Printmakers," issued many prints on political and social themes, and beginning quite early this included portraits of the presidents. The series was probably inspired by the contemporary living president, but Currier & Ives completed it back to Washington and every president in between. Such prints would have been hung in the homes of patriotic Americans and they are wonderful examples of the output of this great American print publisher.
