Jacques Nicholas Bellin. "Carte de la Nouvelle Angleterre..."
c. 1757. 10 x 13 1/2. Engraving. Original hand coloring. Very good condition.
This French & Indian War–period map details the English colonies from Pennsylvania north to Penobscot Bay in Maine, depicting their early boundaries in considerable detail. Fully engraved with topographical features, it includes numerous early place names and shows the colonies confined largely east of the Allegheny Mountains. West of the mountains are the Nations Iroquoises, Indian villages, and several French forts. The map extends westward to include Lake Ontario and most of Lake Erie. A richly ornamented French rococo-style cartouche, incorporating a distance scale, decorates the map.
