W.J. Bennett. "Weehawken."

New York: Elam Bliss, 1830-48.  4 1/2 x 5 7/8. Engraved by A.B. Durand.  Printed by Wade. Faint foxing in margins, else, very good condition.

A well executed engraved view of Weehawken, New Jersey published in the first half of the nineteenth century.  The engraver of this print, Asher B. Durand (1796-1886), is best known as a landscape painter of the Hudson River School, though early in life he was apprenticed to an engraver, and engraved Trumbull's "Declaration of Independence," establishing him as a foremost American engraver.  Durand is also known to have engraved the first U.S. postage stamps in 1847.
