Isaac Weld, Jr. “View of the Cohoz Fall.” [Cohoes Falls, Mohawk River, NY].
From I. Weld, Jr. Travels through the states of North America...during 1795, 1796 and 1797. London: John Stockdale, [1799]. 6 ½ x 8 ¾ (image). Engraving by P. Thomson. Vertical folds, as issued. Slight browning. Else fine condition.
A charming and unusual view from an early scenic history of America. This print shows a view at the Cohoes Falls that Weld saw on his travels through the United States from 1795 to 1797. In the age when water power was one of the most important natural resources for the new nation, these falls where the Mohawk River meets the Hudson, were an important economic consideration and a sublime sight. A delightful and early view.
