M. S. Weaver. “Built by Martin and Ann Meylin, 1740.” [West Lampeter Township, PA]. From Israel Daniel Rupp’s History of Lancaster County. Lancaster: Gilbert Hills, 1844. 4 x 6 5/8. Lithograph by Thomas Sinclair. Very good condition.
Meylin is known for inventing the long rifle which became known as the "Pennsylvania Rifle" and the "Kentucky Rifle."
A charming view circa 1844 lithographed by Thomas Sinclair of Philadelphia, for I. Daniel Rupp’s History of Lancaster County published in Lancaster in that year. Thomas Sinclair was a Scotsman, who came to Philadelphia before 1833. He started his own lithograph publishing firm in 1838. William Sinclair joined him in Thomas Sinclair & Co. from 1854-59. Later, Thomas’ son, John C. Sinclair, joined the firm, which became T. Sinclair & Son.
