Cephas Greer Childs was a printmaker and publisher who was well acquainted with the Philadelphia area. His engraved series of views of the city is amongst the finest done of Philadelphia in the early nineteenth century. The series contains prints of all the major sites, each rendered by a prominent American artist or architect. For their compositions, detail, and subjects portrayed, these are first rate Philadelphia prints. This print shows the Friends’ meeting house in Merion on the Main Line.
