This map was issued by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK), a wonderful English institution of the mid-nineteenth century.  Typical of their maps, copious and exact detail is shown, but what is most notable is that the SDUK was very concerned to keep their maps up-to-date and this map is typical of that.  Topographical detail includes mountains and rivers, with many settlements noted.
