D. McLellan.  “Map of the United States of America, showing the Railroads, with insets “Oregon and California” and “Railroad and Canal Map of Albany to Buffalo.” From Harper’s Statistical Gazetteer of the World.  Particularly Describing the United States of America, Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

New York: Harper & Brother, 1855.  Lithograph on thin bank note paper.  With folds as originally issued.  Repaired tear into map upper right hand side by Cape Cod with several repaired small holes where folds intersect.  Faint browning along some folds.  ¾ of right hand margin re-margined with matching old paper.  Else, good condition.

A bright and highly detailed map of the United States Harper’s Statistical Gazetteer of the World.  The map shows the country from the Atlantic Ocean to the middle of Texas and the Nebraska Territory, with an inset of the western parts of the United States entitled "Oregon Northern California &c."  The map is impressively detailed, showing roads, canals, and railroad lines throughout the country. Even though the inset of the western parts is on a reduced scale the areas of Oregon, California, Utah and New Mexico can be easily seen.  The large territories of Minnesota and Nebraska dominate the mid-west.  A smaller inset map above New York State shows "Rail Road & Canal Routes from Albany to Buffalo."  A fine example of the United States prior to the Civil War.
