Jefferson City: James Lusk, 1855.  207, 239 pp.  with an additional 12 views, 5 county geological maps, 18 diagrams of strata and sections, 3 paleontology plates, and one mine diagram.  Numerous small illustrations are among the text pages.  Errata page added.  Very clean text.  Original publisher’s cloth binding (a bit faded) with gold stamping on the spine and blind stamped seal of Missouri on front and back boards.  An excellent, clean copy.

Here is an exceptional plate book of the mid-west with notable geological locations and county maps with geographical importance.  The views and maps are on better paper than the text with the views drawn by R.B. Price and maps and profiles by Mrs. G.C. Swallow.  Many of the views are along the Mississippi River with steamboats, rafts, and people.  Woodcuts are by J.M. Kershaw and G.A. Bauer, and the lithographs and engravings are by the St. Louis firms of L. Gast & Brothers, Schaerff & Brothers, and J.M. Kershaw.  A fine item of Missouri pre-Civil War history.
