Kurz & Allison. “J.A. Garfield [facsimile signature] and Family."

Chicago: Kurz & Allison, 1882. 16 1/2 x 23. Lithograph.  Stain in image near Lincoln portrait, and in margin.  Slight chipping at edges of margins.  Else, very good.

A memorial print after Garfield's assassination, showing him surrounded by his mother, wife, daughter and three of his four sons.  Portraits of Washington and Lincoln are visible on the wall in the background.

The print was lithographed by the Chicago firm of Kurz & Allison, that is well known for its production of commemorative prints using the latest technological advances. Founded in 1880, their avowed purpose was to design “for large scale establishments of all kinds, and in originating and placing on the market artistic and fancy prints of the most elaborate workmanship.”
