Johannes Kip was a draughtsman and engraver, who worked first in his native Amsterdam before moving to London at the end of the seventeenth century.  He did portraits, views, and all sorts of book illustrations.  This print is a wonderful example of Kip’s delicate and skillful work.  Architectural elements are rendered with great care and detail.  Incidental figures add delight and visual interest.
