Ferdinand Séré. "France VI-XIme Siecles. Couronnes et Cercles." From Cl’us Ciappori Les Arts Somptuaires Histoire du Costume et de L’Ameublement et des arts et Industries qui s’y Rattachent.
Paris: Hangard-Mauge, 1857-58. Chromolithograph by Hangard-Mauge. Quarto. 8 3/8 x 6 5/8. Very good condition.
As the title states, this is one of a sumptuous series of bright chromolithographs illustrating medieval European costume, furniture, and the arts of this period. This work was intended for a wealthy clientele throughout Europe, satisfying the demand for colorful illustrations of the past. The prints are of particularly good quality, being very fine examples of the use of printing in color (chromolithography). The images are printed with precise registration and rich color that has well maintained its brilliance. A most interesting and decorative set of prints.
