Robert Surtees created the character of Jorrocks in his book
Handley Cross, initially published in 1854, with illustrations by John Leech. This handsome reissue contains “…a pictorial edition of the Lectors delivered by John Jorrocks, M.F.H., in Handley Cross...” (from the Introduction). G. D. Armour’s appealing watercolor illustrations enhance the amusing text.
