W.J. Huggins. "South Sea Whale Fishery."

London: Huggins, Jany. 1, 1825.  Judging from the paper, this is a later printing from the original plate.  13 1/2 x 19 3/4 (image) plus full margins.  Aquatint by T. Sutherland.  Hand color. Very good condition.

William John Huggins (1781-1845) was a member of the Royal Academy in the 1830s and was marine painter to George IV.  His most famous painting is the “Battle of Trafalgar” that hangs in Hampton Court.  This is his most famous print in which he shows the multiple functions of whaling in a single picture.
