Miss Semple. "Woman of North Holland." From The Costume of the Netherlands.
London: R. Ackermann, Jan’y 1, 1817. Quarto. Engraving. Original hand color. Very good condition.
As had come to be expected of Ackermann’s viewbooks, these engraved images of Dutch costumes after Miss Semple’s drawings are fine depictions of regional dress in the Low Countries in the early 19th century.
Ackermann was a prolific publisher; his History of Oxford is one of the best known of works on that great University. His volumes comprehend interesting compositions, many showing people of different occupations and classes, travelers, and so on, all finely depicted with the excellent engraving and vivid, rich color for which his works are known.
