A well executed engraved view of Weehawken, New Jersey published in the first half of the nineteenth century. The engraver of this print, Asher B. Durand (1796-1886), is best known as a landscape painter of the Hudson River School, though early in life he was apprenticed to an engraver, and engraved Trumbull's "Declaration of Independence," establishing him as a foremost American engraver. Durand is also known to have engraved the first U.S. postage stamps in 1847.
