Mary Nimmo Moran was the wife of the landscape painter Thomas Moran, who is recognized as one of the best American painter-etchers of the late-nineteenth century. Mary learned the art of etching from her husband and she was known for producing etchings which featured summer and twilight skies based on sites near her homes in East Hampton, the meadows of New Jersey, or the hills of Pennsylvania. However, these prints were meant to invoke her homeland of Scotland which this print demonstrates to great effect.  This print, which is her best known print, captures the light perfectly between twilight and darkness.  A rare and desirable image by this American etcher.
