A nicely detailed hand drawn map of the American Relief Administration (A.R.A.) District of Odessa [Ukraine] showing the locations of all of the various medical facilities in the district in 1922. A.R.A. was established in 1919 as a relief mission to Europe with Herbert Hoover as program director. Between 1921 and 1923 the A.R.A. supplied the majority of all relief that went into Russia. When the program ended, a little under a million tons of food, seed, clothing and medical supplies had been distributed in Russia. A key to the right indicates the type of medical facilities and below is a scale of miles where one inch equals 30 verst. A verst is a Russian measurement of length where one verst equals 0.66 miles.
