Schuyler Colfax was the 17th Vice President and served from 1869 to 1873 with Grant. This wonderful engraving by A.H. Ritchie who is known as one of the best historical print makers of the mid-nineteenth century. Ritchie is particularly known for the clarity and richness of his engravings, and this fine image is an excellent example of his work. Ritchie is especially known for engraving the famous scene of Lincoln reading the Emancipation Proclamation before his cabinet.
