A precisely detailed map from one of the leading British map making firms of the nineteenth century.  Adam and Charles Black issued atlases from the 1840s through the 1880s, keeping their maps as current as possible.  This handsome map is a good example of their output.

Scottish cartographer John Bartholomew, Jr., (1831-1893) was second in the prolific line of his family engaged in the map making business.
