Joe Jones (1909–1963) was an American painter, lithographer, and muralist. A self-taught artist, he left school at the age of fifteen to work as a house painter for his father. Jones pursued his artistic career in his home state of Missouri until he was twenty-seven, when he relocated to New York City. During his years in Missouri, his paintings won a series of prizes at exhibitions held by the St. Louis Art Guild. Time magazine followed his career closely and wrote about him throughout his life.
