Arthur William Heintzelman (1891-1965) was a painter, etcher, teacher and curator. He attended, and eventually taught, at the Rhode Island School of Design. From 1921 until 1934 he lived in France and Switzerland. During his time in France, Heitzelman was named to the Legion of Honor do to his contributions to French art and culture. After returning to the United States he was became the first Keeper of Prints at the Boston Public Library. He would hold this position from 1941 until his retirement in 1960.
