Albany Howarth (1872-1936). "Rosslyn Chapel." [Scotland].
1918. 11 x 7 1/4. Etching. Signed in pencil by the artist. Light sun toning to paper in margins.
A lovely rendering by the British etcher Albany E. Howarth (1872-1936). There is not very much information regarding the artist, but his work is typical of the type of prints which were being produced by etchers of this period. Howarth’s works are exquisitely etched with an enormous attention to the architectural detail of any given scene. Variations in shading, and the variance of light and dark areas functions to give depth and vibrancy to his subject matter. The skill and craftsmanship demonstrated in his etchings places him in the highest regard among his peers in the etching movement.
