He worked in both Philadelphia and New York before eventually settling in Claymont, Delaware. There he worked for the next nineteen years producing drawings for prints, magazines, and more than 200 books. These included best-selling works by such prominent authors as Washington Irving, Charles Dickens, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
