Haskell & Allen. "Little Emma."
Boston: Haskell & Allen, ca. 1850. 13 x 9 1/4 vignette. Small folio. Lithograph. Original hand color. Very good condition.
From about 1830 through the rest of the century, there were a number of lithographic publishers in most eastern cities. The most famous of these was Currier & Ives, but there were many others. This example is typical of the popular print style: colorful, affordable and with images covering much the same range of topics as those of Currier & Ives in New York. Subjects included portraits, historical events, scenes of daily life, views, religious themes, politics, sports, animals, sentimental images and any other topic that might be of interest to the American public.
