Unattributed.  “Terrific Engagement at Pittsburg Landing, Tenn, [Battle of Shiloh] April 6^th, 1862.  Between the Rebels under Generals Beauregard and A. S. Johnston and the Union Forces under Generals Grant and Buell – Total rout of Rebels with a terrible loss – the bloodiest battle of the age.” 

New York & Hartford: E.B & E.C. Kellogg, 1862.  8 ¾ X 13 (image).  Lithograph.  Original hand color.  Chipping and tears in bottom expertly repaired. Soiling in margins.  Print has been professionally conserved and backed with rice paper.  Else, good condition. 

During the nineteenth century, lithographic publishers such as Currier & Ives, from New York and the Kellogg firm, from Hartford, issued thousands of images in separately issued prints. These prints were intended as art suitable for framing for the American people. The wonderful perspective on the myriad subjects which these images depict offers us a unique look through the eyes of that earlier time.
