A beautiful early 18th century double hemisphere map of the world from a Dutch bible. This map was engraved by Daniel Stoopendaal after an earlier bible map by Nicolaes Visscher and it is similar to other Dutch Bible maps of the period. As always, the decorative features are delightful. The depiction of the world is also quite interesting, including the geographic myth of California being shown as an island. The map is surrounded by allegorical representations of the continents with their native flora and fauna and two solar charts. For its combination of historic interest and aesthetic beauty, this is a wonderful old map of the world.
