Geographical Publishing Co.  “The Santa Barbara Independent.  1910 Census Premium Map of California and Nevada.  The Big Newspaper of the Coast County.  Every Afternoon Except Sunday.”

Santa Barbara, California: Santa Barbara Independent, 1910.  35 ¾ x 27 ¾ (paper).  Color cerograph printed by the Geographical Publishing Company.  Several skillfully repaired tears with archival tape at bottom some into map.  Some wear along map edges with minor creases and crinkling in map top and bottom all as to be expected.  Else, very good condition.

An interesting wall map published by a Santa Barbara newspaper to commemorate the California census of 1910.   The map is surrounded by vignettes of the governors of California and a photo of the capital in Sacramento.  There are two inset maps lower left of San Francisco and Los Angeles vicinities.  On the verso of the map is detailed census information for California for 1910 and a key in order to easily find various California cities and towns on the map.  This map was most likely issued for those who were premium subscribers, and/or, as a promotion to tempt new subscribers to the Santa Barbara Independent. One would assume that not many of these maps were issued and survived.  We were unable to find a copy listed anywhere.  A most unusual, informative, and attractive wall map of these western states.
